Relocating during the summer months is usually the most stressful time for many families or students who are attending college. A summer move can also be especially difficult if you live in an area with high temperatures and humidity.
But no need to worry, we are here to help ease your mind! Here are 5 tips for a stress-free mobile home move this summer!
If you intend to hire a professional moving company, try to book them as far in advance as possible to ensure that you get a move date that works for you. Booking movers in advance also increases the likelihood of choosing your first-choice moving company.
Because most moves occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend, the sooner you secure your moving services, the better your chances of reserving the day and time you prefer.
Moving at the beginning or end of the month is usually more expensive than moving in the middle. Similarly, moving on weekends is more costly than moving during the week.
During the summer season, there are also several significant holidays. Some holidays can even be more expensive to relocate during. This is due to a lack of available movers and heavy traffic on the roads.
So, if you want to get the best rate on your next move, we recommend going with mid-week, mid-month, and avoiding holidays! This will be the most stress-free and budget-savvy time to move during the summer.
Consider packing your household items and breakables yourself to save money and time. You will only need basic packing materials for these, such as cardboard boxes and packing paper. Do this a few days before your movers arrive to assist you with the rest of your belongings (such as your furniture).
When packing your belongings, use caution!
Some items, such as electronics, cannot withstand the heat at all. If you suspect that some of your household items could undergo damage from the heat, save them for the end of packing (or keep them in your car) and unload them first.
The more items that must be moved, the more expensive your move will be! After all, the shipment will be heavier (affecting the cost of an interstate move), and the move will almost certainly take longer. Fortunately, lightening your haul can help you save money during peak moving season.
Donate, sell, or give away items in your new home that you no longer require. Purge whatever you don’t need one room at a time. Be honest with yourself throughout the process!
Do you really need 100 coffee mugs? Chances are, probably not!
Moving into your mobile home during peak moving season in the summer heat can be challenging, to say the least! Don’t forget to bring a cooler with plenty of water, snacks, and perishables with you when you move.
Stay hydrated, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, apply sunscreen, and even bring a portable fan. Take breaks as needed to refuel with snacks so you can continue working efficiently!
Moving into your new mobile home is an exciting time. Whether you are relocating in the same city, or moving across the country, the summertime can pose its own set of challenges. Even with the heat on your back, if you do your best to implement these 5 tips we covered above, you can have a stress-free mobile home move this summer! Happy moving!
