Air Conditioning Options for Mobile Homes

Summer is quickly approaching, and some people may be searching for the best air conditioning options for mobile homes.

Maybe you live in an older mobile home, or you want to learn more before purchasing in the near future. No matter your situation, the goal is to stay cool and comfortable in the heat of the summer

We’re here to help you narrow down your search by discussing air conditioning options for mobile homes and factors to consider in the process.

Let’s jump right in!

Factors to Consider First

While there are various types of air conditioners available to keep your mobile home cool, there are other factors to consider before making a decision:

1. The Amount of Space Needing to be Cooled

You must determine how much cooling power you require based on the size of your mobile home and the number of rooms. This will help you in selecting a unit powerful enough to keep your living space comfortable. For example, while window units are ideal for single rooms, if you need to cool more than one room, you may need to install a central air conditioner.

2. The Direction Your Mobile Home Is Facing

It is important to consider what direction your home faces. This will help you choose the best air conditioning system for your mobile home’s needs. If your house faces south, you may need to increase the capacity of the AC system, whereas if it faces north, you will not. Simply put, if your home is a direct target of the sun’s rays, your unit must be capable of performing up to par!

3. What Does Your Budget Look Like?

The model that is most suitable for your mobile home will also be determined by the type of air conditioning system you can afford. While window units and portable models are typically less costly, they may not be what your home needs nor will they provide the same level of cooling power as central air conditioners or ductless mini-splits (which have a higher price tag.)

Choosing an Air Conditioner for Your Mobile Home

Most owners of mobile homes can’t get by comfortably with some simple window units. While this is a very inexpensive option, there are three other directions you can go to keep your home cool:

1. Central Air Conditioning

Central air conditioners are typically the most popular and cost-effective option among mobile homeowners. It’s important to understand that a furnace is also required inside the mobile home. This unit collects heat from within the home and transports it to an outdoor unit, where it is released. Cooled air is then circulated throughout the house via your existing ductwork.

2. Ductless Mini-Split System

If your mobile home does not already have ductwork, a mini-split unit may be a better option. These systems are wall-mounted, with a small outside unit that is directly connected to an inside unit. These units give you more flexibility with cooling your mobile home, being extremely compact and simple to install. They are also very quiet and efficient in terms of energy consumption

3. Packaged Air Conditioning System

Last but not least, packaged air conditioning is a popular cooling option for mobile homes. This all-in-one system is outside and houses the compressor, coils, and air handler. Taking up less interior space with no indoor is definitely a bonus. A packaged AC system might also require the installation of ducts, depending on the layout of your mobile home.

Stay Comfortable Year Round!

When deciding on an air conditioner for your mobile home, be sure to consider the factors above like your specific needs and your budget. With a little research, you can make an informed decision that will keep you and your family comfortable year-round. It’s also important to remember, that no matter the system you choose, to have a professional take care of the installation!
