Manufactured Home Myths: Debunked!

We’ve all heard a myth or two about manufactured homes, and today it’s time we settle some of them!

Whether you’re looking for your first home or simply a larger space for your growing family, finding the perfect home that meets your needs can be a pretty stressful journey. There are many attractive options to choose from, including traditional stick-built homes or manufactured homes (also known as mobile homes.)

We can hear it now, “wait, a trailer? How can I put my family in a trailer?!” Well, hold on and listen! We all know manufactured homes have had a bad rap for quite some time, but let’s just say they aren’t accurate whatsoever, especially with modern-day manufactured homes!

Let’s put it this way, don’t feel like a site-built home is the only safe, comfortable, and affordable option for you. We’re going to debunk some common manufactured home myths, and hopefully, you’ll see that they meet almost any of your dream home’s requirements!

Myth #1: Unsafe Compared to Traditional Homes

The presumption that a manufactured home is in any way dangerous is a myth. It’s as simple as that.

Mobile homes are constructed under strictly controlled conditions and are subject to The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards (HUD Code).

The HUD’s standards are applied to all aspects of the construction process, including design and construction, strength and durability, transportability, fire resistance, heating, plumbing, air-conditioning, thermal and electrical systems, and overall home quality. Even better, a mobile home with the HUD code seal of approval meets regional standards for roof load, wind resistance, thermal efficiency, safety, and durability.

Simply put, mobile homes are just as safe as traditional stick-built homes!

Myth #2: Not Really “True” Homes

It’s a shame that this is a common myth passed among many people about manufactured homes, so let’s debunk this right now. Although they are built in a factory rather than on-site, manufactured homes are true homes! These homes are delivered with a permanent, non-removable steel chassis, making them a permanent residence. Manufactured homes can be classified as either real or personal property. Newer homes built to HUD standards can be used as long-term housing. This is because they are constructed with the same long-lasting, dependable materials as traditional houses.

So, who’s to say that these aren’t real homes? Mobile homes are nothing to be ashamed of and are simply a perfect solution for so many aspiring homeowners out there.

Myth #3 Manufactured Homes Aren’t Energy Efficient

The times have changed, and mobile home manufacturers are now taking energy efficiency seriously. Newer mobile homes are designed with energy efficiency in mind. Energy-efficient lighting and windows are frequently used in newer mobile homes. If you have an older home, you can always upgrade or remodel it to make it as eco-friendly and efficient as possible.

Clayton Homes brand is the leader in energy efficiency, and we are proud to carry their homes here at Braustin Homes!

Myth #4: Manufactured Homes are Plain and Outdated

Wait a minute, have you seen what manufactured homes look like these days? If you haven’t, look again! Many people seem to believe that because manufactured homes are factory-made, they are just cookie-cutter homes, with every home featuring the same basic layout, limited options, and unexciting design.

However, because they are factory-produced, they are quite the opposite! The manufacturing process these homes go through opens them up to a vast amount of customizability and luxury options. Now, that’s great news!
