Not all mobile homes today have a basic traditional interior. For the most part, they are built with very modern and stylish interiors, and you won’t be able to tell them apart from a traditional site-built home.
Single-wide mobile homes, in particular, can feel cramped. Getting past that can be difficult, because any interior decorating you do may overwhelm the available square footage. The trick is to create the illusion of open space while also making the most of your usable space.
But no need to worry, we are here with five helpful tips for decorating your mobile home that will also maximize the space in your home and make it feel like a haven for you and your family.
Let’s start now!
Mirrors are commonly used by interior designers to create the illusion of more light and space. Mirrors reflect light even better than light-colored walls.
They also make rooms appear much larger than they are. Try not to be afraid to use them in your mobile home!
Pro tip: Install the mirrors on walls that face windows for the best effect. You can also use them in areas with small windows and little natural light.
As you live in your mobile home, you will undoubtedly accumulate more items over time. The original storage spaces available to you can become full before you know it! Consider adding vertical storage if the floor cannot accommodate additional shelves and cabinets.
Install floating shelves for books and décor on blank walls. Hooks and holders can also be installed behind doors. The goal is to have any storage possible off the floor.
Curtains are useful in many ways. By installing blackout curtains, you can sleep in a pitch-black room at night and block out the bright morning light. If you live in a very warm climate these curtains can keep the temperature more regulated in your mobile home.
If you prefer a light and sheer curtain, they are great for adding a decorative touch to your windows and serve as a frame while making the room feel cozier.
Pro tip: When hanging curtains, (if your ceiling is lower) then installing them higher and using a longer curtain can make the ceilings appear higher!
First off, choosing longer, lower pieces of furniture over taller pieces can draw the eye around the perimeter of the room rather than up toward the ceiling. You want to avoid bulky furniture with unnecessary details that cause it to take up more space, such as large armrests.
Thankfully, modern furniture designs are more compact and multi-functional, making them ideal for smaller spaces and perfect for mobile homes. For example, the coffee table may have deep storage compartments for books, magazines, or any other items that need a home!
Mobile homes of today are being built with open-concept floor plans, and everyone’s loving it! For a more cohesive and open feeling, it’s always recommended by designers to keep the same paint color flowing throughout the home.
This leads us to our next point, there is no defining space between the kitchen, living, or dining room. Area rugs are a great way to define a space and add an extra layer of coziness and charm to a room. Problem solved!
Whether you plan to purchase a mobile home, or you are currently living in one already, these decorating tips are easy to implement and cost next to nothing. You may already have what you need to accomplish these ideas. See, it doesn’t have to be difficult. It is possible to make your mobile home feel larger and more luxurious!
